Betsy Bennington, formerly Hosage, will assist you in getting up to speed after tirelessly doing this for as long as i can remember. WL Weekly Announcement Scribe: Louise Cottingham wrote a weekly capsule to remind us of all things winter league, but she apparently needs to work this year and so has no time. This is a one-day a week job that should not take even an hour (unless you send it in by morse code). Fields Update: Tad & Rex are working diligently to work out various issues with the three factions (polo people, horse people, and school people) that must be satisfied. Committee Reports: Recycling/Trash: Trash on the fields was a non-issue last year due to great work by all teams to clean up their own sidelines. However, we need a chairperson to lead a committee of volunteers to walk the fields and social area for trash on sunday morning, as well as to arrange to have the trash bags hauled to a dumpster at the end of each saturday. This is crucial, as leaving the fields trashed is a perfect way to lose the fields forever. Also, recycling needs to be better organized than in years past. Advertising/Recruiting: We need a group that will spread the word on Winter League to all groups in the DFW area that currently play ultimate, as well as to women's sports leagues in the metroplex (we currently have too high a gender imbalance to make large-scale male recruitment feasible). Among the duties would be to create a one-page flyer that can be printed by anyone and handed out, as well as to help encourage previous league-ers to re-enlist. We also need a chairperson, but Glenn Burr (glenn_burr@hotmail.com, winner of the most logical email id contest) is the contact person until one is found. THIS COMMITTEE NEEDS ENTHUSIASTIC, POSITIVE, AND ACTIVE FEMALE MEMBERS. Sponsorship: Andrea Brown (abrown@airmail.net) and Steph soon-to-no-longer-be Brom (SBrom@dal.blairtv.com) will initially be co-chairing this committee. The group will be designing a package to offer to potential sponsors to explain the size of the league and what "face time" various levels of sponsorship will bring. The group will also work with Mike Strange and his group to build a similar package for weekly food sponsorships. Food: Mike Strange (frizbro@attbi.com) is once again doing food and needs volunteers to cover a week. He hopes to do more sponsored weeks such as last year's pizza, bbq and soup weeks, so if you have contacts with anyone at a restaurant (and no, marc, being repeatedly shot down by a waitress does not count). Parking: We are still looking for a chairperson to cover this crucial committee, however Brett Moneta (dfwbrett@yahoo.com) has volunteered to lead the charge for now. They would be in charge of recruiting someone to help direct traffic each week. Also, parking to the right of the bridge will be completely off-limits except for people who are setting up food and beverages. This is to mollify the horse people who need the area clear to move trailers. Community Service: Andrea Brown (abrown@airmail.net) needs volunteers to help her set up our food drive. A coat drive and the possibility of clean-up/kids' clinics are also being examined to improve relations with the community. Website: If you have experience with web coding and are interested in helping with the mechanics of the site or suggestions for the site, please contact Johnny Thompson (johnny@popdensity.com) and Mark Graham (markjohngraham@yahoo.com). Several issues from last year will be resolved, including quick game score updating (which was fixed by the end of last season), the paypal issue for registration. Fields: Charlie Gaddy (cpgaddy@hotmail.com) needs volunteers to help line the fields before the first weekend (most likely December 6, weather and field availability permitting). He will also need help relining the fields at least once during the season. Social Activities: Big Ed (swcook@yahoo.com) and Big Gulp (big_gulp_h3@hotmail.com) will be heading this again. They will be looking for volunteers to bring a theme to the post-game festivities each week. Last year this was a huge success, with such memorable evening fun as Spontaneous Kickball, Night Ultimate, and Twister. I especially hope everyone gets into the spirit of Give Large Wads of Cash to the Organizers week. Theme: A yahoo! groups poll has been created to allow everyone in dallas ultimate to vote on one of three possible themes: Star Wars, Monty Python, and Breakfast Cereals. These three were chosen by a vote of those attending the meeting on Monday.
