Dallas Winter League - The Dog Policy

effective 11/05/2003

All of us regret how strict this policy has to be, but all of us should wholeheartedly embrace it. Without the strict rules below, we would not be allowed to have dogs at WL at all!

Please understand that this policy is tenuous. If there is a general trend toward laxity, the Winter League Committee will review the situation & possibly move to a "No Dogs" policy. (Yes, this would be harsh, but it would be regrettably necessary.) Please don't let this happen!

We need everyone's help to pull this off! If everyone politely & diplomatically helps keep everyone else in line, we'll be golden. But if people begin to slack, and rely on Sarah, BC, BigEd & Tad to encourage compliance, we'll be dogless in no time.

The rule is pretty simple:

***All dogs must be leashed and either in hand or staked at all times.***

Consequences for non-compliance:
Although we want all players to encourage compliance, only Sarah Deering, Brian Carlson, Steve Cook (BigEd) & Tad Miller will be able to dole out official warnings/consequences. We will have a list… We will keep track…

  • 1st instance:   The owner will receive his/her one and only "Warning" for the entire span of the league. The owner will be asked to put his/her dog in the car for the remainder of the day.
  • 2nd instance:   Owner will no longer be allowed to bring his/her dog to WL for the remainder of the season. The owner will be asked to put his/her dog in the car for the remainder of that day.
If someone continues to be non-compliant, even after being asked to put their dog in their car, their team will automatically forfeit any game in which that dog owner plays. (As long as we are semi-reasonable beings, it should never come to this.)

We know that this policy is tough for many dogs/owners, especially for those dogs who are super well behaved. We feel your pain & we understand your frustration. Unfortunately, though, it's either this or nothing…

Shine, Dogs, Shine!
